WordPress vs. Joomla: An Old Debate!

WordPress and Joomla are the two most widely used open source content management systems (CMS). In order to decide upon a CMS, it is necessary to understand the basic functionalities a particular CMS can support. Here is a rundown of some pros and cons of WordPress and Joomla respectively if you are not able to choose between the two.

Usability factor: WordPress is the right option to start off because of it’s simplicity. The HTML editor and template editor is quite easy to understand. You can toggle back and forth between your WYSIWYG and HTML editors for pages and individual posts.  Moreover, templates resolve the PHP coding into simple sections like “header,” “footer,” and “main index.”  This makes customization easier. If you have limited time, WordPress is a suitable option compared to Joomla.

Versatility factor: While WordPress is primarily meant for bloggers, Joomla caters to your non-blogging site requirements. Although it can be a time consuming process, once you learn Joomla, you can implement eCommerce applications, banners and great form builders on your site. WordPress does not feature such extended versatilities compared to Joomla.

Understand your site requirements in order to find the right solution.
