Apple Acquiring ARM for $8 Billion?

Silicon Valley is rife with rumors of Apple planning to acquire ARM Holdings that creates processors for most of the world’s mobile phones including the iPhone and the iPad.

According to the ‘London Evening Standard’, ARM Holdings is speculated to be a part of Apple Inc. for approximately $8 billion. Shares of ARM Holdings have shot up by 8% during the trading hours due to this rumor. Apple could have greater control over the development of mobile processors, if this deal comes through. It would also give Apple the power to deny its competitors the use of ARM technology, even for Android phones. This deal could force mobile phone makers to use weaker processors for their phones. However, for this to work, Apple must first convince both American and European regulators.
